Why most city landing pages fail

Digi7 min read

If your city pages differ only by the name of the city, search engines have already worked that out. So have your visitors.

The template trap

The economics look appealing: one template, four hundred cities, four hundred pages. In practice, near-duplicate pages compete with each other, dilute the authority of the pages that could rank, and give a visitor nothing that a national page would not.

What genuine local content contains

Local pricing that differs from the national average. Named people who actually serve the area. Photography from real projects. Questions specific to that market — permits, seasons, building stock, regulation. Testimonials from customers in that city. If you cannot supply those, the page is not ready.

Fewer, better pages

One of our clients removed 371 templated pages and published 34 real ones. Local organic leads rose 186 percent. The pages that remained were finally able to rank because nothing was competing with them.
